      碳化硅是用石英砂、石油焦（或煤焦）、木屑（生產(chǎn)綠色碳化硅時(shí)需要加食鹽）等原料在電阻爐內(nèi)經(jīng)高溫冶煉而成。在當(dāng)代C、N、B等非氧化物高技術(shù)耐火原料中，碳化硅為應(yīng)用最廣泛、最經(jīng)濟(jì)的一種，可以稱為金鋼砂或耐火砂。碳化硅又稱碳硅石、金剛砂、耐火砂，是用石英砂、石油焦、木屑等原料在電阻爐中經(jīng)高溫冶煉而成。碳化硅有黑碳化硅和綠碳化硅兩個(gè)常用的基本品種：①黑碳化硅含SiC約95％，其韌性高于綠碳化硅，黑碳化硅用于加工抗張強(qiáng)度低的材料，如玻璃、陶瓷、石材、耐火材料、鑄鐵和有色金屬等；②綠碳化硅含SiC98％以上，自銳性好，綠碳化硅用于加工硬質(zhì)合金、鈦合金和光學(xué)玻璃，綠碳化硅用于珩磨汽缸套和精磨高速鋼刀具。
 



      碳化硅具有化學(xué)性能穩(wěn)定、導(dǎo)熱系數(shù)高、熱膨脹系數(shù)小、耐磨性能好、耐腐蝕、耐高溫、強(qiáng)度大、導(dǎo)熱性能良好、抗沖擊等特性。

      磨料磨具方面：碳化硅主要用于制作砂輪、砂紙、砂帶、油石、磨塊、磨頭、研磨膏及光伏產(chǎn)品中單晶硅、多晶硅和電子行業(yè)的壓電晶體等方面的研磨、拋光等。
 
      化工方面：碳化硅可用做煉鋼的脫氧劑和鑄鐵組織的改良劑，可用做制造四氯化硅的原料，是硅樹脂工業(yè)的主要原料。碳化硅脫氧劑是一種新型的強(qiáng)復(fù)合脫氧劑，取代了傳統(tǒng)的硅粉碳粉進(jìn)行脫氧，和原工藝相比各項(xiàng)理化性能更加穩(wěn)定，脫氧效果好，使脫氧時(shí)間縮短，節(jié)約能源，提高煉鋼效率，提高鋼的質(zhì)量，降低原輔材料消耗，減少環(huán)境污染，改善勞動(dòng)條件，提高電爐的綜合經(jīng)濟(jì)效益都具有重要價(jià)值。
 
      耐磨、耐火和耐腐蝕材料方面：利用碳化硅具有耐腐蝕、耐高溫、強(qiáng)度大、導(dǎo)熱性能良好、抗沖擊等特性，碳化硅一方面可用于各種冶煉爐襯、高溫爐窯構(gòu)件、碳化硅板、襯板、支撐件、匣缽、碳化硅坩堝等。另一方面碳化硅可用于有色金屬冶煉工業(yè)的高溫間接加熱材料，如豎罐蒸餾爐、精餾爐塔盤、鋁電解槽、銅熔化爐內(nèi)襯、鋅粉爐用弧型板、熱電偶保護(hù)管等。碳化硅用于制作耐磨、耐蝕、耐高溫等高級(jí)碳化硅陶瓷材料。碳化硅還可以制做火箭噴管、燃?xì)廨啓C(jī)葉片等。此外，碳化硅也是高速公路、航空飛機(jī)跑道太陽能熱水器等的理想材料之一。
 
      有色金屬方面：利用碳化硅具有耐高溫，強(qiáng)度大，導(dǎo)熱性能良好，抗沖擊，作高溫間接加熱材料，如堅(jiān)罐蒸餾爐，精餾爐塔盤，鋁電解槽，銅熔化爐內(nèi)襯，鋅粉爐用弧型板，熱電偶保護(hù)管等。
 
      鋼鐵方面：利用碳化硅的耐腐蝕，抗熱沖擊耐磨損，導(dǎo)熱好的特點(diǎn)，用于大型高爐內(nèi)襯提高了使用壽命。
 
      冶金選礦方面：碳化硅硬度僅次于金剛石，具有較強(qiáng)的耐磨性能，碳化硅是耐磨管道，葉輪、泵室、旋流器，礦斗內(nèi)襯的理想材料，碳化硅耐磨性能是鑄鐵、橡膠使用壽命的5--20倍，碳化硅是航空飛行跑道的理想材料之一。
 
      建材陶瓷砂輪工業(yè)方面：利用碳化硅導(dǎo)熱系數(shù)、熱輻射、高熱強(qiáng)度大的特性，制造薄板窯具，不僅能減少窯具容量，還提高了窯爐的裝容量和產(chǎn)品質(zhì)量，縮短了生產(chǎn)周期，碳化硅是陶瓷釉面烘烤燒結(jié)理想的間接材料。
 



      1、運(yùn)輸與裝卸：碳化硅在運(yùn)輸過程中，不得用鐵鉤拖拽，應(yīng)防止與堅(jiān)硬物質(zhì)混裝，不可強(qiáng)烈振動(dòng)、磨擦、踩、砸，嚴(yán)禁拋擲，應(yīng)輕裝輕卸，以減少包裝破碎，影響使用。
      2、儲(chǔ)存：碳化硅應(yīng)儲(chǔ)存于陰涼干燥處，防止內(nèi)外包裝袋破裂，防止受潮和其它物質(zhì)，影響使用效果、存放要遠(yuǎn)離污染源。
      3、嚴(yán)禁水浸：碳化硅屬于高級(jí)磨料，所以在運(yùn)輸、儲(chǔ)存和使用過程中，都要絕對(duì)防止水浸，因水浸后，嚴(yán)重影響使用效果。
