大理石石質細膩、光澤柔潤、有很高的裝飾性。但是對于石材分類，人們普遍存在誤區(qū)：把花崗巖和大理石混為一談。有很多朋友將中國黑、黑金砂等這些最常見的花崗巖，看成是大理石。

家裝常用的大理石品種有各種米黃、深淺啡網紋、大中花白等。大理石較花崗巖質軟，易碎裂，但花紋、顏色漂亮，裝飾效果好，價格昂貴，是裝修中的高檔材料。

目前應用較多的有以下品種：

1、單色大理石：如純白的漢白玉、雪花白；純黑的墨玉、中國黑等，是高級墻面裝飾和浮雕裝飾的重要材料，也用作各種臺面。

2、云灰大理石：云灰大理石底色為灰色，灰色底面上常有天然云彩狀紋理，帶有水波紋的稱做水花石。云灰大理石紋理美觀大方、加工性能好，是飾面板材中使用最多的品種。

3、彩花大理石：彩花大理石是薄層狀結構，經過拋光后，呈現出各種色彩斑斕的天然圖畫。經過精心挑選和研磨，可以制成由天然紋理構成的山水、花木、禽獸蟲魚等大理石畫屏，是大理石中的極品。
